Internal Retaining rings/ Snap rings are used to retain shaft bearings in the motor housing. Multi-Turn wave springs are used to preload bearings and reduce high speed vibration.

A shim end Multi-Turn wave spring retained by an external shaft ring is used to seal the radiator cap to maintain system pressure.

Used in the high pressure battery pack cooling system, the quick connect fittings utilize internal snap rings to retain the bearings that are preloaded by a Single-Turn wave spring and a Multi-Turn wave spring in the internal quick connect and valve assemblies.

A shim end Multi-Turn wave spring retained by a Push-On retaining ring is used in the side mirror hinge.

Radial E rings are used on the external linkages to connect the motor shaft to the wiper arms. A bowed E ring is used on the splined wiper motor shaft to remove end play on the retained adapter plate. An external spiral ring is used to retain a worm gear on the main wiper motor shaft.

Electric Motor using a Balanced Spiral Ring with a Self-locking Feature

 

Due to the high RPM of EV bearings, balanced rings are essential to prevent expansion from centrifugal force and ensure they stay seated. These rings lock into an opposing slot, preventing slippage and failure.

Spiral rings can be balanced to reduce motor vibration by adding cut-out slots opposite the ring’s gap, centralizing the center of gravity. Depending on the application, a ring may need self-locking, balancing, or both. High-speed rotation applications often require balancing to reduce vibration, with the housing preventing outward expansion.
